In Germany, you need to be 18 years old to get a driver's license. You normally have to pass a lot of written and practical tests to get a German drivers license. (Fuhrerschein). Rental car companies normally do not rent cars to persons under 25 years of age. Insurance coverage is normally a big problem. Contact Triple A (AAA) in the US to see if they have a way to provide you with insurance while you are in Germany.

what can I do to stay in Germany when my student visa runs out?
So it runs out in November and I've been planning to engage my girlfriend this month or the next and I'm wondering because I don't want to leave My girlfriend and Germany what can I do to Extend the visa time or possibly get a new visa? My girlfriend is German and i plan to engage her this month or the next but my visa expires in november. What can I do to get a new visa or is it possible to leave the country and return to get 3 extra months when it runs out? I'm Australian

marry your girlfriend before november and you should be granted a permanent visa for germany as long as your gf is german
2 :
If you are an American, if you leave the country and come back, your passport acts as a 90 day visa.
3 :
If possible you should place that question right to someone who is in charge at the local Foreign office.(my personal opinion)

How do I get into school in Germany as an International Student?
How do I get into school in Germany as an International Student?
I am a Junior in High School in America and would love to go to Germany for University. I take German in High School and I am number one in my GERMAN class. I was wondering if someone from Germany could answer some questions or perhaps someone that has gone through the process. Will I have to take the Abitur test? What is the cost of liveing in Germany? Etc. Etc.

If you apply at a German University there is a standard process for forreign applicants. You have to proove sufficient knowledge of the language. You can do so at your local "Goethe Institut", the German cultural institute (http://www.goethe.de/). You may have to make something like the Abitur test as German universities (esp. in Bavaria) often do not consider non-German (or even German!) school certificates as good enough. There are schools for such people which help to get the certificates you need. The university where you want to study can give you all information necessary. Note that any German university expects you to contact them in German language. Living expenses depend on where you are. But you should consider at least 1000.- Euro per month, better a bit more and in a place like Munich definitely more. (try http://studieren.de/studium-lebenshaltung.0.html which show statistics from 2003). I recommend you contact the German embassy in you home country and also the Goethe Institut. Esp. the Goethe Institut should be able to answer most of your questions. Feel free to contact me.

Sprechen sie Englisch??
2 :
You could put "Wilkommen in _____(<-- name of your city)" or "Wilkommen zu Hause!" <-- welcome home! But if she's there to learn/improve her english maybe you should just write whatever you want in english!

My husband and I will be hosting our 7th exchange student (beginning in about 10hrs; I can't wait!!!) this year. On the sign we make, I always put some kind of party/celebration-type background (I'm a nerd and use PowerPoint - you can just put in pictures or something if you make it by hand), pictures of both the USA flag and the flag of their home country, and "Welcome to your new American home, we're glad you're here!" in both English and their language. I've also see signs with personal pictures on them. Many families buy a few ballons and/or may buy flowers for female students. Just make it something that conveys how excited you are about her arrival. Have fun hosting! It's a wonderful experience.
