Can I change my Schengen Visit Visa into Student Residence Visa?

Can I change my Schengen Visit Visa into Student Residence Visa?
I got a Swiss Schengen Visit Visa and I will travel soon to visit Switzerland. Also I will visit my friends in Germany and I'm planning to visit a university there. In case I got my admission approved in that university, can I stay in Germany and change my Schengen Visit Visa into Student Residence Visa, instead of traveling out from Germany and then obtain a brand new Schengen Visa to re-enter Germany as a residence Student?

Yes, you may apply for a residence permit in Germany. In general long-stay national visa issued by German Embassies are only valid for three months with the demand to apply for a resident permit after arrival at Germany. German Embassies and Consulates can only issue visa for 3 months since the authority to grant a longer stay is with the German States based on Federal Law. Provided you hold a visa valid for 90 days you need to contact the town-hall of the city you plan to reside in and obtain the residence permit through the foreigners office [Ausländeramt]..
