Is theatre big in Germany? What are popular musicals there?
Hey there! Next year, I will be a foreign exchange student to Germany! I am VERY into theatre here in America, it is my life. I was jusg wondering if lots of kids do theatre over there. One of my favorite musicals is Spring Awakening, and I know that it is set in Germany. Do the community theatres in Germany perform that alot? What are popular musicals that they do? Thanks!

Um, Spring Awakening is only known as the novel/drama to students at school (I think we all hated it *lol*) and as a normal theater play, but not as a musical. Still, we have many musicals - the big ones - here, all put on by one company named Stage Entertainment. There are also tour productions that aren't Stage produced. Smaller, local theaters may sometimes have musicals as well, but mostly it's normal plays without music in them. Depending on the city you're staying in (or close to), you'll find classic plays as well as modern versions of classics, or new stories. As for the musical here - we have, for example, Tarzan, Wicked, We Will Rock You, Sister Act, and The Lion King, as well as some German musicals, such as Tanz der Vampire, Hinterm Horizont and Ich war noch niemals in New York (the two last ones with music from famous German artists, similar to Mamma Mia). They're all in German, though, of course ;)
