Look first DAAD.de, a public institution. Study fees are not very high in German, aprox 1.000 -1.600 Euro / year. In some states it is free. If you can read German: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Studiengeb%C3%BChren_in_Deutschland In Germany there is no ranking list-fever like it is in US because the are sponsored by government. Study subject Elektrotechnik (= Electronics) ranking from a German newspaper: Unsiversities of Aachen Darmstadt Munich Karlsruhe Dresden Stuttgart Berlin Illmenau Hamburg-Harburg Braunschweig Kaiserslautern
2 :
check out www.planeteducation.info/. It is in almost all major cities provides all information on study abroad, career counselling, entrance exams preparation like GRE, CAT, CET, GMAT, XAT, SAT, IELTS. It is an excellent counselling organization with very friendly staff.

NO you are a STUDENT you do not have a job - and you do not have any status as a worker. Taxes are irrelevent. your visa says you are a student, NOT a worker. most countries have a rule that you MUST RETURN home after you graduate, and then reapply from your home country to immigrate to back to the country you studied in.

Getting a student visa in Germany?
Getting a student visa in Germany?
I'm stuck in Germany for the moment, and would like to get a student visa to remain so. Does anybody know if they check your bank account for a student visa? The work situation being what it is (around the entire globe, apparently) a student visa is my last option to stay here. Any ideas on how difficult it is to get one?

First of all to apply for a student visa has to be done from your home country and yes they do check your bank account and you have to provide proof of enough German skills to be able to follow courses held in German. Short answer a student visa is NO option to stay in Germany once you are in Germany already.

if you want to go all the way to Germany just to learn the language might as well take it here. go to a community college or take some class and learn the language it will be the same thing nothing will be changed and you will save yourself a lot of money than buying the student visa and the plane ticket
2 :
Just apply for a student visa at a high school or college depending on your age. You don't have to know German to study there. Most people who go there is to study and learn German at the same time.

Am I a Resident of Germany ? I am asian student trying for a working holiday maker visa?
I would like to know is it possible for me to apply for this visa which the website states the following condition. " Please note if you are not normally resident in Germany we will not be able to take on your application We generally advise people to apply in their home country before travelling."

if the website says that ? than if i were you i would get online to check your country of origin ,and check Germany embassy , i have never heard of this ? but ? you just say that you were a resident .so that should not apply to you .you are not traveling to Germany ,you are already in that country .......?please come back and tell me what it is you really want to find out ? i will try to find it for you ..))
2 :
call your local immigrations office or embassy.
3 :
usually resident means you are living in the country (legally of course) regardless of situation. I.e. if you are a student on a student visa, living in germany, usually you would be considered a resident of germany (though obviously not a citizen). Though each country may have its own rules.
4 :
in Most situations, foreigners have to go to their NativeCountry and submit the applications to the Embassy or Consulate.

When I did the exhange with my college, I just paid normal tution for my school in the states, and my tutition was free at the German school. You may want to talk to the German professor to find the exact policy of your school.
2 :
College in general is free in Germany.Depending on the school and the state you might have to pay a fee of 500 Euros per semester, but that max.Besides that you just need money for your books and the costs of living.

Haha you sound exactly like me when i was a freshman in high school. My grandmother is also from germany and doesn't look like she was going to be moving back there any time soon so she was always encouraging me to do a student exchange program but i heard you have to have A's on your whole report card so i really didn't try it. Now i'm a junior and in August i am going to Germany as a foreign exchange student for 10 months for my senior year with the Rotary International Club in my district. No matter what you have heard or what you will hear about the Rotaries program (maybe it was just me) but it was pretty easy to get into. My grades aren't A's i get B's and C's actually but the program so far is really fun because they have had Orientation already and a District Confrence and i have met a lot of people from other towns in PA that are leaving the country and i have also met some exchange students in America and we have all became great friends from just spending 2 weekends together in a span of 3 months. As for how i found out about Rotary? Honestly i was just bored one day during the summer and entered my name and phone number and email to find out more information on a rotary international page about exchange programs and one day about 2 months later i got a call i was never expecting.. it was a man asking if i wanted to be an exchange student lol. so i encourage you to find out more about Rotary and if you have any information you want or any questions please feel free to either add me on MSN or E-mail me at TennesseTitans09@hotmail.com. thanks. bye :)

Definitely go with AFS. Their one of the most know and reputable programs. Here's their website. http://www.usa.afs.org/usa_en/home It can be quite expensive, but you aren't going to find any cheaper then that. I'm going to France with AFS next year.

Try getting an internship over there. It pays some money. I don't know how much, depends on the job.
2 :
Why would you want to do it without papers when there are legitimate ways, especially for students? A visit to the nearest German Cultural Centre or joining a student exchange programme at your faculty/college would set you in the right direction. Also, depending on your country of origin, the German government sponsors foreign students for learning German in Germany and offers a great variety of courses. And you might also want to consider joining an international charity or an NGO active in Germany that has paid schemes for foreigners.

The entry requirements for a country is based on your country of citizenship, not country of residence. An as Indian citizen, you have different rules that apply than if you were a US citizen. All the information you need can be found on the website of the Germany Embassy in India, which is linked below.
2 :
Tourist visa to Germany and a valid passport.
3 :
For entry into Germany: Tourist visa for Germany, valid passport, Re-entry back to the U.S: Valid passport, valid F1 visa and a valid I-20 which is signed on the third page by the DSO at your school.

You can either look for a room in a shared flat (called WG in German, most typical for students) or for a 1-room-appartment. In shared flats you generally have your own room, but share kitchen and bathroom. If you are a foreign student coming to Germany contact the Studentenwerk Bonn, they will arrange for you to have student housing in one of their halls of residence. This will be a good way to get into contact with Germans and students from around the world, as about 10 % of the rooms in the halls of residence are set aside for foreign students. http://www.studentenwerk-bonn.de/internationales/index.php?lang=en

T maia is always correct since she is East German. We have a law in Germany that East German woman have to be given BA. For this reason we have even an East German woman as chancelor in Germany.

See an immigration consultant to file for a K1 or K3 visa for you. It will give him permanent status but who cares if he sues it or not.

As an international full-time student you have limited rights of travel, you can maximum take one quarter break, you can leave United states at anytime and come back by showing your I-20 at the port of entry. However you will get a transit visa in germany for that period of visit.

Things to do for a college student in Heidelberg, Germany?
I'm currently a college student in Heidelberg for the summer with some of my friends and I was hoping some of you would have some recommendations on where to have fun that are not listed on the travel books. Are there any good clubs, good pubs and your suggestion on what kind of bier to order while we're here. :) Basically.. what to do in this town for a college aged student.

ask the question under Travel>Germany. There should be more Germans to answer it.

Try spend an afternoon or evening (esp. if on the weekend) at the meadows along the Neckar (Neckarwiesen)...well, as soon as the weather gets better. There will be plenty of people, also with bbq equipment and you can meet a lot of locals there. in the quarter between Römerkreis and Bismarckplatz there are a lot of nice bars and cafes. You can have a good brunch on sundays there.

I'm an Asian American student going to Germany?
I'm 16 and a girl, going with the rest of my class to Germany this summer. I'm kind of frightened by racial discrimination. I will be staying at my exchange student's house for about 3 weeks and afraid I will not fit in or the German students will not like me. I really want to go, but I'm not so sure how I will be treated there.

Well - are you frightened in your hometown? If not so do your things just as usual. You,re not coming alone as you say. Each one of your classmates shout keep an extra watch one each one during your stay. That's all about.
2 :
to which city are you going to? it really depends on, which place in germany you are going to. for instance, there are many multicultural cities, e.g. berlin, frankfurt, hamburg, düsseldorf, cologne and others, which have a high percentage of asians and other 'non-caucasian' immigrants/citizens. i think that the german students (many with foreign origin) in school won't discriminate you, because you are asian. (the situation may different in a little village, which hasn't a sizeable foreign population.) however, don't be scared to come to germany, it's an (in the most states) open-minded country and it's becoming more and more multicultural.

Racism in Germany is significantly less than in the US just compare criminal statistics of the two countries. There is nothing to worry about enjoy your stay in Germany

I am going on an exchange program. I leave July 31 and I just found out I have to apply for the visa myself. I leave tomorrow and will be out of the country for three weeks (until June 29). Will I have time to get the visa when I get back? (tomorrow I leave for Colombia- not Germany) I am not a US Citizen but permanent legal resident.

Apply today, at the very least look at the documents you need. and try to get an appointment for an interview at the German embassy. It usually takes more than one month to process a student visa, since the documents have to be send to Germany for approval. 3 months total processing time is not unusual, since they will need to give you an appointment for an interview before they do anything with your application at all. This is especially true when you'd need a visa to travel to Germany as a tourist. US citizens can apply in person in Germany, so it is a lot faster for them.

Most schools have "German for Foreigners" classes. These are free and some teachers offer private tutoring as well. There are other options. 1. You may choose evening classes with Berlitz for example. These are good for beginners. It costs money but these have a good reputation and progress at good speed. (I took these in the beginning) 2. You can sign up with the Volkshochschule for a "Deutsch als Fremdsprache". They have various levels, starting at different times of the year. In my area the price is about 200 Euros for a semester, or one level. 3. You may choose to advertise for a University student to come and teach your son at home. The going rates are from 10-20 Euros per hour. 4. The Goethe Institute has great courses and gives tests and certificates of German skills. They are more expensive but it is the standard in instruction and certification, especially if you think he may wish to prove his competencies later, if he wishes to come back to Germany for his secondary education, etc. I learned most of my German by being in school all day, finding friends, going out with them, and taking a Berlitz beginner's course. I watched TV and listened to the local radio stations. Hanging out at the mall. In a couple of months I was starting to speak and within a year I was fairly fluent. I was 11 years old at the time. Full immersion is the best way. Finding a family who agrees to take your son on trips or to their home for the weekend and agrees to speak only German with him, will also help! Let your son know, there is lots to do and try. The worst thing for him to do is to cocoon himself with English speakers. Language skills will help him in the future, in his education, with job opportunities.... etc Don't worry now, adapt once you arrive to whatever fits the bill the best for you two! Allow yourselves the time to learn and allow mistakes. It is all part of the learning process, and it is OK! Enjoy it!

In Germany, you need to be 18 years old to get a driver's license. You normally have to pass a lot of written and practical tests to get a German drivers license. (Fuhrerschein). Rental car companies normally do not rent cars to persons under 25 years of age. Insurance coverage is normally a big problem. Contact Triple A (AAA) in the US to see if they have a way to provide you with insurance while you are in Germany.

If possible you should place that question right to someone who is in charge at the local Foreign office.(my personal opinion)

How do I get into school in Germany as an International Student?
I am a Junior in High School in America and would love to go to Germany for University. I take German in High School and I am number one in my GERMAN class. If you apply at a German University there is a standard process for forreign applicants. You have to proove sufficient knowledge of the language. You can do so at your local "Goethe Institut", the German cultural institute (http://www.goethe.de/). You may have to make something like the Abitur test as German universities (esp. in Bavaria) often do not consider non-German (or even German!) school certificates as good enough. There are schools for such people which help to get the certificates you need. The university where you want to study can give you all information necessary. Note that any German university expects you to contact them in German language. Living expenses depend on where you are. But you should consider at least 1000.- Euro per month, better a bit more and in a place like Munich definitely more. (try http://studieren.de/studium-lebenshaltung.0.html which show statistics from 2003). I recommend you contact the German embassy in you home country and also the Goethe Institut. Esp. the Goethe Institut should be able to answer most of your questions. Feel free to contact me.

My husband and I will be hosting our 7th exchange student (beginning in about 10hrs; I can't wait!!!) this year. On the sign we make, I always put some kind of party/celebration-type background (I'm a nerd and use PowerPoint - you can just put in pictures or something if you make it by hand), pictures of both the USA flag and the flag of their home country, and "Welcome to your new American home, we're glad you're here!" in both English and their language. I've also see signs with personal pictures on them. Many families buy a few ballons and/or may buy flowers for female students. Just make it something that conveys how excited you are about her arrival. Have fun hosting! It's a wonderful experience.

Ok someone suggested this would be a good topic for me to write about as my research paper. But before I decide, did the 60s student movement really have a huge impact on democracy in Germany and Europe today? And if so, how? Is there a place you guys can direct me to find sources or read up on this specific topic in german history? thanks in advance.

Am German in my mid 40s. My take is that whilst it no doubt was an important part of the development of the German post-war society, it is not something that is measurable and can easily be argued. How would it have influenced democracy? I cant think of a single thing. It is a question similar to 'How did the hippie era and Woodstock festival influence US democracy? It was part of society but not really shaping democracy. Not to discourage you, but I thought it is better to give an answer than to keep stumm. and i am not a historian or social scientist major.

But it's not necessary. I'm sure you will learn it soon when you live in a country for a while...!

I went to school in Germany about 10 years ago and my student visa specifically prohibited me from taking employment (I am Canadian but the American students had the same visa). Now this may have changed because I know England and Denmark (live there now) allow students to work. The best thing to do is simply call the German Embassy that you are dealing with. They are usually pretty happy to answer those question. They may even just have it on their website.

I can't say if it is allowed, but I can surely say that it will be nearly impossible to find a job. We actually have a rather high unemployment rate here and finding a job is a full time job by itself. Sorry, maybe there are better times ahead.

I was in Germany as an exchange student a few years back.. I'm an Indonesian and when I came there they prohibited us to find a job.. But somehow my friend said that if you take regular study program (not an exchange one), you can have a job.. There's some legal thing to do this.. Though, it's kinda hard to find one too.. well, maybe those (almost voluntary low-paid) jobs in the university Good luck! PS : And believe me, living as student in most part of Germany doesn't cost so much.. Don't worry too much! you wouldn't hardly run out of your money

Hi, with a student visa you're usually not allowed to work, but there are exceptions to it. You might be allowed towork on the campus for the University itself. Furthermore there are some countries with bilateral agreements that will allow you to have some "student part time job" while studying in Germany. Please check for the exact rules at the German foreign office.

You mean a student exchange thing? Like in high school? If so, don't worry about it. There are several options. While you can't work, a few organizations have scholarships for you. I went to Japan for free.
Am I allowed to work in Germany as a student for a semester?
I am an American citizen, and want to go to Germany for an exchange program, and will have trouble affording it, so it would be cool if I could work there in the meantime. Is that allowed?

How old do you have to be to become a foreign exchange student in Germany?
@ Bryan M. Thank you so much! So a 13 year old could go? I'm asking this for my younger sister. She is 13 years old and wants to go to school in Germany. She could stay with my Dad's friend's family.

Depends on several things are you going to stay with a host family or on your own. If you want to stay on your own you need to be 18 since otherwise things will be very complicated due to the reason you are no adult and thus can not sign any contract. If you stay with a host family there is no age limit since the host family will be responsible for you. From the point of view when does it make sense to come to Germany as an exchange student that will depend on your knowledge of German you should be able to understand at least some German already when you come here. I will join the site of DAAD which might be of interest for you. EDIT If you are 13 you would need the ok from your parents of course if you have that you could go. As said before you would need a host family since you can not live on your own in Germany at age 13 and you would need to understand basic German when you come here already. I have been to France for 6 months when I was 12 for an exchange program myself.

I can either be a foreign exchange student in Germany or Sweden? Which one should I choose!?
Being a foreign exchange student in either Germany or France cost the less, so I am going to one of those two. Which one should I choose? Which country is better? I mean, in terms of cleanliness, friendliness, economic strength, military strength, etc. Sorry! I meant France! In my question, where I said Sweden, I meant France! My bad!

I would vote for Germany since I live there. I also love France too but Germany is very clean and central; it is surrounded by many countries (including France) which is convenient. Which language can you capture better, German or French? You have to speak the language to enjoy yourself and to meet friends so start leaning now.
2 :
Cleanliness? WTF kind of question is that, Kyle? :-D Both would be great. The Germans have the best beer, the French have the best food. Military strength is won hands down by the French. They've got The Bomb, though both countries are NATO members so the will hardly be any invasion during your stay. As for economy, they look fairly equal an gapminder.org. The local variations within the country is much greater than the differences between countries. What is basically comes down to is which language will you be most likely to pick up most easily, and which school or university do you want to go to.
3 :
Hey, it very much depends on your language skills. The french are known to be lazy to talk in other languages, Germans on the other hand love to use foreign language skills (they probably try to speak better then you do...). As for a clean stay, well it depends on the town. Like Paris is gorgeous in the center it gets f***ed up in the suburbs (but really bad!). Berlin on the other hand is quite a crazy town but you'll sure miss a "real nice'n'fancy" part (though you can find that in Munich or Hamburg). And then there's the going out part: and to be honest, even of the Germans feel a bit distanced in the beginning, you will surely enjoy your nights more there then in France! Have a good time, where ever you go!

APPLYING FOR A STUDENT VISA IN GERMANY To be considered for a Student Visa, the applicant must first complete an application form for a 'longer stay visa' (white form) in duplicate. A valid passport and 2 passport size photos are needed for the application. VISA ASSESSMENT Applications will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria: I. Evidence of Enrolment One of the essential requirements for a student visa application is that the applicant has been accepted for enrolment by a registered institution of higher education in Germany. This is proved by the admission letter ('Zulassungsbescheid') from the German institution For more informaiton you can refer http://www.allembassyonline.com/blog.htm

You will be sent a letter, they will not tell you at the interview if you are approved. So just relax in the mean time, they don't get in any hurry to grant Visa's. Sorry I know that's not the answer you wanted but. Good Luck.

What should I do with my exchange student from Germany?
I live in Oregon and am hosting a German in a couple of weeks. I am not sure as to what activities that she might be interested in. She will be here for about three weeks. I have already thought of going to the beach, Woodburn outlet mall, and Silver Creek Falls. She is going to the Capitol, Mt. Hood, and a Blazer game. I need ideas. If anyone could help that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

When I was in Oregon I really liked seeing the Tillamook cheese factory. Maybe she would like to see some local industry like that, like fishing boats or local woodworking crafts, etc. Is there an Indian reservation where you are? I bet she would like visiting that too - they don't have those in Germany!
3 :
everything you would do with your best friend. Try to do a lot because before you know it she'll be gone. You may be happy at first, but when she's gone for a while, it'll hit you hard. Trust me I have experience

Can I pay off my student loans while living in Germany?
I want to move to Germany and i would like to know if it is possible to pay off my student loans while living there so i dont have to wait in the US for me to pay them off. And if i can then how would i send the money to the US?

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't mind you paying them wherever the hell you reside. I'm sure they have a department to handle incoming payments. Just send it to the correct department. Always make sure you have copies of your checks or in the case of a credit card a copy of the transaction because you never know when they will try to act like you haven't paid them. And if that time comes, you will have the proof.
2 :
Yes you can pay off your student loans while living in Germany, that is, if you can afford moving to Germany. If you can, then by all means go. When you are in Germany, you'll probably have to wire money to a bank account in the US which the University/College/Student Loans office would feed out of. To set something like this up it is best that you go to your bank and talk with someone who is a professional.
3 :
I think you have to check to see if they even let you stay away from the US for more than a specified amount of time! When there is a debt issue involved, usually they don't like to see the one who is in debt is living anywhere other than the US. They obviously might think that it would be harder to track you down and if you leave, you might not show up and never pay back your loans!

I'm going to be an exchange student in Germany, but track is important, what kind of teams do they have?
I have heard that high school teams are unavailable in Germany, and that they only have club teams. Is this true? Are these teams satisfactory? Running is more than a hobby for me, it is a career choice. Please give me as much detail as possible concerning the opportunities and practice schedules of cross country/track teams for high school athletes in Germany.

Generally speaking, in Germany and most of Europe, school sports are not at any height as here in America. Their is no school soccer(football) team that everyone goes to. Simply it is because school's are generally educational strictly in Europe and you can take gym where you learn sports. Don't get me wrong though, Germany is one of the most athletic nations in the world, if not the most. Soccer is HUGE in Germany, along with winter sports (Skiing especially), and track sports as you said yourself, it is just that normally you have to join some sort of club, that can cost money.

1. Program is probably in german only. 2. Most younger people do speak some english. 3. No. Eichstaett is a very small town (I read somewhere it is the smallest town in europe with a university) in a remote, rural area of germany. A lot of students there are from surrounding villages and return to their parents on weekends. A big university wouldn't call itself "Catholic university" btw. so the name is a give-away as to what the university focuses on (theology).Don't expect theology students to be very lively.

It depends on what country you are from and the agreements your country has with the EU. In most cases, yes you can travel within the EU. Again--best to check first. There are places for online info. Search for the embassy website of your country and go to the travel/visa info page.
2 :
With a long-stay national visa (Type D) for Germany or a residence permit issued in Germany you can travel to all 24 other countries of the Schengen agreement to include Italy, France, and Spain. There are no governmental immigration controls on flights between Schengen countries. You just show your passport/visa/residence permit on check-in or security check, that's it. It depends on what country you are from and the agreements your country has with the EU. In most cases, yes you can travel within the EU. Again--best to check first. There are places for online info. Search for the embassy website of your country and go to the travel/visa info page.

I am currently in college in a theater training program. I would love to study abroad for a little while and am really interested in studying in Germany. Does anyone know what opportunities are available for Theater majors in Germany? Preferably near Schweinfurt?

Hello, I don't know where you are but I would tell you to check out http://www.campus-germany.org for further details. That site has a compilation of everything related to education in Germany. It is the website of the German government. You can send an e-mail to "postmaster@daad.de" with your complete resume and your career plans and ask them for institutions in Germany for theater. Look on Google for DAAD in your country. All the best!

Can German universities expedite student visas in Germany?
Can German universities expedite student visas in Germany?
I am a Mexican citizen studying in the USA. I was recently accepted to German university through an agreement between my school in the US and the state of Baden-Wurttemberg in Germany. I applied for a student visa and the employee at the consulate told me it usually takes about 8 weeks to process. My classes will start in less than a month!! Someone told me that the university in Germany might be able to expedite the process... is this true?, even if expedited will I get my visa on time? has anyone been in a similar situation with a German student visa?

I'm currently studying in Baden-Württemberg as a foreign student. But my situation wasn't as nearly complicated as yours. I'm from Canada and Canadians don't need a Student Visa to enter Germany as a student. I had to go register at the ''Ausländerbehörde'' (Foreigners Registration Office - where you'll also need to go once you get to Germany) and I then got my ''Aufenthaltserlaubnis'' (residence permit) on the spot. I think your situation is a little more complex since you're Mexican studying in the U.S. Remember that German bureaucracy is 1) slow and 2) very strict. You need to follow an exhausting order of rules in order to get what you want. I highly doubt the university will be able to accelerate the process, but you can take a chance and ask them, you won't lose anything. Question: Why haven't you applied for a student VISA earlier? I also think it's funny how your classes start in less than a month...when is that? Germany has no Fall Semester, only winter and summer. and the Wintersemester will start at the end of september/early october. de todas formas, suerte!
